Apparently my Refrigerator is ‘Almond Color’, I translate this as Dingy White. Mostly because I’m pretty sure my parent’s have Almond in their Kitchen, but their refrigerator looks clean. Where as mine looks dirty all the time. I knew I didn’t want to buy a new fridge- it was not an expense I had budgeted for. And, also I plan on eventually redoing the kitchen (like 5 years down the road) and I would get all new appliances at that point.
Anyways, I went to Home Depot (because once you buy a house it becomes your second residence) and looked at the appliance paint. White, White, or White. So naturally I asked where was the Stainless Steel paint. They guy give me a look like I just asked to see a Unicorn.
Apparently it exists, but only in the Magical world of the internet.
So I logged on and found my options to be well, limited.
I did stumble upon this little gem- Thomas’ Liquid Stainless Steel. It comes in all different sizes depending on what appliance you’re using ($75 for a fridge, $25 for range or dishwasher). It comes with everything- Base Coat (the liquid stainless steel), Top Coat (gloss), Sponges, Rollers, and even an instructional DVD (that I did not watch).
Results were Amazing! It’s probably gets the most “ooooing” and “awwwing” when people enter my Kitchen. Application was very easy, instructions were simple to follow. I would just make sure you watch it for drips. Although it dries fast the dripping can sneak up on you. I read the reviews on Amazon and a lot of people biggest complaint was there wasn’t enough Paint. I didn’t find this to be a problem. But, I also made sure to keep it in the back of my mind. I didn’t paint too thick and I only did one coat of Stainless on the top because I don’t know any giants that will see up there. In the end I had some paint to spare.
Maybe, $75 seems a little steep just to paint a fridge, but my whole kitchen was an eyesore. And, I didn’t like the idea that everything would be freshly painted and bright except my dingy old refrigerator. And, while I am of the school if it’s not broke don’t fix it, there is certainly nothing wrong with altering it.
$74.32 (Amazon currently has it at $79.95)
